Negative Space Homework Due Oct. 3rd
Here is an example of your next homework assignment. This assignment is to draw the negative space (the space around and between the object). Pick something complicated with complex negative spaces like intertwined wires or a ball of yarn unravelled. Focus on the shapes that the negative space creates and draw those shapes rather than the object/s. This will force you to draw what you really see instead of what you think you see. Remember to vary the weight and quality of your line. Do this on your nice drawing paper and take up the whole page.

Sept 24th Class
Please bring your pencils (HB, 2B, 4B) and your drawing paper to tomorrow's class. We will start working in pencil and contour lines. Also do not forget to bring your fabric homework assignment plus any other assignment that you reworked. See you all tomorrow.

Homework #3 Fabric
Here are some examples for the third homework assignment, drawing of fabric in charcoal. It is due Wed, Sept 19th. Please be sure to address the whole page and really look at the fabric. Study the folds, draw what you see and don't generalize generic folds. Make sure to ground the object with a drop shadow. Please be conscious of craftsmanship. Take your time. Do not come in with folded assignments, please neatly cut the paper out of the pad, no smudges, and be sure to spray it with fixative.

Glass Reflection (Homework Assignment #2)
I announced the other day in class that the Glass Reflection (Homework #2) was due on Wednesday, which is not according to the syllabus. This was my mistake. Please hand the homework in on Wednesday, not tomorrow and then the rest of the assignments will follow the syllabus at their original dates which will usually be turned in on Mondays. Sorry for that! Here are some examples of past student work for this assignment.

Homework Assignment #1
Here are some examples of past student work for the first homework assignment, the household appliance. Please use vine charcoal on drawing paper. Remember to consider the whole page. I want to see the whole page covered in charcoal except for the highest of highlights. Remember to ground the object with shadows and consider the space behind it to put the object in a space. Please spray it with the workable fixative as vine charcoal is very soft and will get all over everything. This assignment is due Wednesday, Sept. 5th. I expect that you spend 8 to 10 hours on this assignment.
