Homework for Wednesday, Oct 24th

Here is an example of the one point perspective for your dorm room or apartment.  Just pick a hallway in the building that you live in.  Remember all of the lines either go to the vanishing point or are 90 degree angles.  Fully render (shade) in pencil.  This is not due until two weeks from now, but you all have seen how long it takes to render with pencil, so you might want to get started early.

Homework for Wednesday, Oct 17th

Here are the two examples for next weeks homework.  Do one point perspective and two point perspective on two separate pieces of paper please.  Here are some tips...

make six to ten boxes
you can use a straight edge for this
you do not need to write the words vanishing point or horizon line (they are for the example)
pick your horizon line and vanishing point or points first
start light with your lines and then finish them heavier after you're done

Here are two examples of the shoe contour.  Use your nice drawing paper and take up the whole page. Remember to vary your line weight (how thick or thin a line is).

Negative Space Homework Due Oct. 3rd

Here is an example of your next homework assignment.  This assignment is to draw the negative space (the space around and between the object).  Pick something complicated with complex negative spaces like intertwined wires or a ball of yarn unravelled.  Focus on the shapes that the negative space creates and draw those shapes rather than the object/s.  This will force you to draw what you really see instead of what you think you see.  Remember to vary the weight and quality of your line.  Do this on your nice drawing paper and take up the whole page.

Homework #3 Fabric

Here are some examples for the third homework assignment, drawing of fabric in charcoal.  It is due Wed, Sept 19th.  Please be sure to address the whole page and really look at the fabric.  Study the folds, draw what you see and don't generalize generic folds.  Make sure to ground the object with a drop shadow.  Please be conscious of craftsmanship.  Take your time. Do not come in with folded assignments, please neatly cut the paper out of the pad, no smudges, and be sure to spray it with fixative.

Glass Reflection (Homework Assignment #2)

I announced the other day in class that the Glass Reflection (Homework #2) was due on Wednesday, which is not according to the syllabus.  This was my mistake.  Please hand the homework in on Wednesday, not tomorrow and then the rest of the assignments will follow the syllabus at their original dates which will usually be turned in on Mondays.  Sorry for that! Here are some examples of past student work for this assignment.
